Snow, Glazebrook both Medal at PR-filled Coaches Invite!

A very long day at the Reggie Lewis Center for some, but well worth the wait as Sydney Snow shattered her own school record, both Syd and Mike Glazebrook medaled while joining exclusive clubs (sub-3 and sub-10), and we had four new state qualifiers!

Emma Guccione got things rolling with a big PR of over a half second in a state-qualifying time of 43.88 in the 300, nearly winning her heat. She’s fifth in the TVL right now!

Eve Bagley ran an official PR of 1:42.11 in the 600, finishing second in her heat and moving up the D4 leaderboard.

The 1000 saw another pair of state qualifiers in early heats, as Katie Salley ran 3:15.42 and Alexis Mejia ran 3:14.62 to both easily qualify for states!

Sydney Snow came into the day ranked second in Division 4 with a best of 3:06, but was up against a field with a few sub-3 runners. Not only that, she was out in last in 34.5 (2:53 pace) thanks to the leaders taking it out in 31-32 seconds! Undeterred, she worked her way up and finished fifth overall in 2:59.76! She not only shattered her school record, she also became the second girl in TVL history to break 3 minutes (Taylor Worthy’s 2:57.66 being the only other), and became the #1 in Division 4 and #7 in the entire state!

Adri Grinder got stuck with perhaps the most aggressive unseeded 2-mile field I’ve ever seen, running 13:18. The entire field went out in 12-flat pace, despite only two of the 20 kids breaking 12:30. Sometimes you can just get a bad draw.

Mike Glazebrook entered as the 25th overall seed, and was the number 5 seed in the second (middle) of three sections. Eighth at the 800, and fifth at the mile (4:58), he negative split including a whopping 2:23 last 800 (and 67 last 400) to win his heat in 9:55.64! But the best news had yet to come. His time beat all but four of the seeded section, so about ten minutes after his race, he was being paged over the loudspeaker to get his medal. It was a 12 second PR, and technically qualified him for states (not that 10:34 was ever a worrisome barrier). He’s just seven seconds off the school record, which is also the oldest record for indoor track (9:48 by Bob Steinbrecher way back in 1981). He’s ranked fourth in Division 4, and 21st in the entire state. Only 12 guys have run under 9:54.

Madison Ward tied for 11th in high jump with a clearing of 4’11. To give you an idea of how long her day was…
10:30 – shows up at meet
11:30 – checkin for high jump
1:30 – first attempt at 4’10. It took NINETY minutes for the field to get through 4’8…Mike was our last racer at this point, so from about 1:45 on it was just Madison.
4:00 – final attempt at 5’1.

Long day, indeed.

Coaches Invite postponed; both meets now on Sunday - UPDATED!

UPDATED - now the events on the oval (the actual track) start at 9:30, not 10:00, so the original post has been updated to reflect that.

Due to concerns about the weather and travel for CMass/WMass teams, the Coaches Invitational has been postponed. As of now both the Coaches and Elite Meet will run on Sunday. The order will be the same as the Coaches order; only difference is the top 30 seeds (the Elite Meet athletes) will be added in to each event.

Here is an approximate schedule. There may be more scratches than expected with so many kids being pushed back a day. Assume you need to be there no later than 90 minutes before your race, to be safe.
(Girls first in each running event...only listing our athletes to save on space)
9:30 Mile (first event on the track)
10:30 Girls 300 (Guccione)
11:10 Girls 600 (Bagley)
12:05 Girls 1000 (Snow, Salley, Mejia)
12:50 Girls 2 Mile (Grinder)
1:40 Boys 2 Mile (M. Glazebrook)
Ward- since there are so many hurdlers and dash kids I'm estimating the HJ will start at no earlier than 11. Much more jumpers so could be a long time between heights.

Please note that this is the schedule AS OF NOW. If there are any changes to the meet (if they cut down on number of kids due to time concerns, etc) ill update it as soon as I hear.

Anyone competing please email
coach Moreau (moreauj@ holliston .k12.ma.us) or myself ( kelleymic@ holliston.k12.ma.us) with a phone number to reach you at if we don't already have it.

Girls break 4x4 record at Relays!

After waiting several years to break the mark, it took less than a year to do it again. The girls 4x400 team matched the 4x8 squad with a third place finish, while the boys DMR was 10th (unofficially).

The 4x800 started the day for everyone, and Eve Bagley started us out with a 2:33.0. Katie followed with a 2:36.7, then Alexis with a 2:33.8. Sydney Snow took the baton in fifth and worked all the way up to third, running 2:23.5 for a total time of 10:07.19, less than three seconds of the record set by the 2005 crew.

The boys distance medley was seeded 10th and finished eighth - unfortunately they do medals to top six at this meet, not top eight like the actual state meet. Ed Glazebrook led off in the 1200 with a 3:42.5 (4:56 mile pace), then Rick Brown passed half the field in the 400 with a 54.3. Ben St. George ran 2:17 for the 800, and Mike Glazebrook anchored in 4:41.

Sydney and Eve had nearly three hours between races, but the wait was worth it. Emma Guccione led off with a (relay) PR of 62.9 seconds, then Eve ran 64.3 in the second leg. Helen Dolan (65.0 followed, and Sydney went from fourth to third on the anchor leg, ripping off a 61.7 to finish in 4:14.16, exactly half a second better than the school record.

No official team scores are up yet, I'll update later when they're available.

As for the rest of the week, tomorrow there's no practice. Practice on Tuesday, meet at Hopkinton Wednesday at 3:30. Thursday we're having our team picture at 2:30 sharp (don't be late!), afterwards any athletes not competing at TVL's will turn in their uniform.

Rick Brown dominates 300 in win; two other medals at Fr/Soph Meet!

We had an individual champion/state qualifier, and four other athletes come home with medals at the MSTCA Freshman/Sophomore Small Schools Meet.

We started with the mile, and Kelly Irons was 37th in 6:12.22, while Addie Datz was 20th in 5:55.43. Tim Strang took 36th in 5:26.84.

In the girls 300, Helen Dolan was 29th in 47.71 and Anna Foster was 31st in 47.86. Up next was the race of the day, as not only did Rick Brown qualify for states and win the race, he did so by over a full second in 37.89!

Over in the early field events, Mark Mulvaney PR’d by over a foot to take fourth in shot put at 38’10. Ryan Sofoul tied for 10th at high jump with a best of 5’2.

Emma Sayers was 16th in the 1000 in a 3-second PR of 3:27.94, while Alexis Mejia was 21st in 3:31.29.

Emma Guccione took 10th in the 55 meter dash in a PR of 7.90 in the preliminary round. Elena Daly was 56th in 8.49.

The girls 4x200 team of Anna Foster, Caroline Ward, Lissy Paolillo, and Emma Guccione finished 17th in 2:00.08, with Emma running a 27.3 split for the last leg.

Despite being seeded 13th, the boys team of Sam Ratcliffe, Ryan Sofoul, Cory Calderone, and Rick Brown vaulted all the way up to 4th in 1:43.53, with Rick closing in a 24.1.

If you score the meet 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 (like most state meets), the boys team would’ve finished sixth. This meet has every team from Division 5 and Division 4 (ours), as well as the lower half of Division 3 (cutoff is approximately 1100 students for enrollment).

1)      33 – Burlington
2)      25 – Marlborough
3)      25 – Norton
4)      24 – Wakefield
5)      21 – Medfield
      6)   20 - HOLLISTON
