Winter Festival - 3 entries/3 medals!

Sydney wins the 1000!

Emma medals - 5th!

Kelly medals - 6th!

Coaches Moreau and Alves took Sydney Snow, Emma Guccione & Kelly Alves to the Holiday classic (THANK YOU FOR TAKING TIME FROM VACATION!) and despite competition from New York, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, they each medaled!!  

First Kelly who was seeded 7th ended up with a toss of 32'4" to claim the first Holliston medal and move up to 6th and improve on her seed!

Next Sydney was in a race with 12 runners in her heat, and she and Mastreomatteo (top competitor in the race)  ran 1-2 for the first couple laps. Sydney passed her around 500 meters and ended up running out in front for the rest of the race and just missed breaking 3:00 with a 3:00:18 and 1st!

Emma was the last competitor from Holliston and had to wait til the final (fast) heat.  Around the first turn she was second to Alyssa Zee, but ended up getting boxed in with 60 meters to go.  In spite of getting stuck in between them, she still managed to place 5th out of 50 runners!

Girls Beat Norton & Millis/Boys Split

The Girls team upped it's record to 5-0, by beating Norton in the relay for an exciting 45-41 win! Both teams beat Millis handily and the boys lost to Norton and end the year at 3-2.

Great performances at the Winter Festival!

Madison Ward won the High Jump as the only one to clear 5'3". She proved that just because it's early in the season, she can still step up her game! Sydney Snow finished 2nd in the 1000 with a strong early season time of 3:02.70. Both Emma Guccione & Kelly Alves placed 3rd in the 300 and Shot Put respectively.  Emma had over a second PR of 42.51, and broke the school record!!  Kelly tossed the Shot Put 33'3".  All of the above easily qualified for D4's with their performances - way to go ladies!

Two underclassmen also finished in the top 10 in the High Jump - Freshman Rebecca Stevens placed 8th with a D3 qualifying jump of 4'11" and Caroline Ward cleared 4'10" to place 9th in the meet.

Rick Brown placed 8th in the 300 and also punched his ticket to the D4 meet.

I will attempt to update times of the other athletes tomorrow morning - if time allows.

The Girls team continued their winning ways with a convincing 54-32 win against Medfield while the Boys lost 60-26. The Girls are 3-0 and Boys are 2-1.

ORDER OF EVENTS – Saturday and Sunday FIELD EVENTS: All field events must check in before 9:15 a.m. Competition begins at 9:30 a.m. Shot Put: Two throwing areas. All shots will be supplied by the meet management. Leave yours at home, they will not be allowed, even in warm-ups. Each thrower will be allowed three throws, there will be no finals in this event.
Long Jump: Boys, then Girls. Each jumper will be allowed three jumps. There will be no finals.
High Jump: Opening Height: Girls 4’4” and Boys 5’0”. “Five Alive” rule will be used until there are six jumpers remaining in the competition. There will be two high jump pits, one for girls, one for boys.
RUNNING EVENTS: Check-in begins at 9:15 a.m. Make sure your athletes listen to the calls for check-in. Girls run before boys.

Panther Boys & Girls Sweep vs. Ashland & Medway - Saturday December 12th

The Boys team thrash Ashland 64-22 and nip Medway 43.7-42.3

Hurdles - Yoel Lignabou (7.0) won the and Jesse Zanghi (7.5) came in third vs. Medway and finished 1-2 vs. Ashland.

Dash - Yoel and Rick Brown tied (5.5) for the win in the dash with Sam Radcliffe (5.6) rounding out the sweep vs. Ashland and Rich and Yoel tied for second vs. Medway.

600 Meter - Ryan Sofoul led a Holliston Sweep vs. Ashland - 1:41.7, With Andrew Milton, 2nd - 1:42.3 and Patrick Majia, 1:44.3 claiming third. And Ryan and Andrew placed 2nd/3rd vs. Medway.

2 Mile - Liam Engle won vs Medway and placed 3rd vs Ashland in the 2 mile - 11:58.6.

300 Meter - Rick Brown won his signature event against both teams at 40.3 and Henry Dolan picked up third vs. Ashland at 45.5.

High Jump - Ryan Sofoul (5'4") led a Holliston sweep vs Ashland with Jesse Zanghi 2nd at 5' and Yoel Lignabou 3rd at 4'10". Ryan claimed 3rd Vs. Medway.

1000 Meter - Tim Strang led the 1-2 finish along with Stephen Gallivan vs. Ashland & Holliston with times of  3:16. and 3:16.2.

Mile - Kevin Montain led the Holliston to a 2nd Place finish vs. Medway and 3rd place vs. Ashland with a 5:20.9 and Ben St. George picked up 3rd vs. Medway.

Shot Put - Sam Radcliffe led the Panther boys with a heave of 35' 0.5" good for 1st vs. Ashland and 2nd vs. Medway, while Mike McKenna finished second with a toss of 31'1.25" vs Ashland.

4x400 Relay - The Holliston Boys relay team came up huge with the win in the race to win the meet against Medway!

The Girls team crush Ashland 70-15 & Medway 64-22

Hurdles - Sophomore sensation Caroline Ward led a sweep vs Ashland (7.7), followed closely by Rebecca Stevens (7.8) and Eve Bagley 8.4 with Caroline and Rebecca finishing 2nd and 3rd vs Medway.

Dash - Emma Guccione lost a close race against one of the best sprinters in Massachusetts - Ashland's Alyssa Zee in the dash to finish 2nd - 5.9 vs. Ashland and win against Medway!  Jana Paecht came in 3rd vs. Ashland (6.4).

2 mile - Alexis Mejia (13:09.2) and Lauren Salley (13:18.1) finished 1st and 2nd vs both teams.

600 Meter - Sydney Snow (1:42.6) & Eve Bagley (1:49.9) also finished 1-2 against both squads.

300 Meter - Emma Guccione's competitiveness kicked in as she got revenge by defeating Alyssa Zee in 42.3!  Helen Dolan came in third vs. Ashland 48.8.

High Jump - Madison Ward (5'2") her younger sister Caroline (5'1") and Rebecca Stevens (4'11") dominated the event sweeping both teams.  This type of depth in high jumping is VERY rare - it's looking possible that we will have 3 qualifiers for Divisionals!!

1000 Meter - Sydney Snow (3:18.7) won and Emma Sayers (3:43.9) placed 3rd vs. both teams.

Mile - Adie Datz won the mile (6:18.1) and Adriana Grinder finished 3rd (6:28.9).vs Medway & Ashland.

Shot Put - Kelly Alves - 33.10, Taylor Rowles 26.3 won against both teams and Jana Paecht finished 3rd vs. Ashland.

4x400 Relay - Holliston beat both Ashland and Medway to end the meet in style.

PR's galore as Sprint Medley takes fourth at NATIONALS!

Despite temperatures in the low 90s and a heat index that easily hit 100, the quartet of Madison Ward, Caroline Ward, Eve Bagley, and Sydney Snow made history yesterday at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in North Carolina.

Without their 400 leg from D3 Relays (Kylie with them in spirit, hopefully not being chased by bears while out in Wyoming), the girls nonetheless all stepped up and shattered their seed time of 4:16.56. Not only that, they won their heat and finished FOURTH overall in the Emerging Elite Sprint Medley with a time of 4:14.01, breaking the TVL record in the process!

Unofficial splits for first three were 28 and change for Madison and Caroline, 61 for Eve, and (only electronic split the meet had), a 2:16.14 for Sydney as she powered from sixth to first in the last 500 meters!

Words can not express how epic of an accomplishment this is. So, if a picture is worth 1000 words...

Holliston TC (they have to run as a club, MIAA rules won't allow them to wear our normal jerseys) have black tops and black/light blue shorts. Madison and Caroline are in the middle lanes, Eve cuts in to lane 1 when her leg starts.

Today, Caroline came back with a vengeance after a four and a half hour wait to PR at 35'1.25 in the Freshman Triple Jump! Her mark would've been 2nd last year, this year it was 14th but out of SIXTY SIX athletes!

Madison had a short wait at one of two high jump pits, but with the highest opening height she's ever had (5'1.75, which took out nearly half the field!), she cleared it on her third attempt. Unforunately a short, but torrential downpour delayed the event by 30 minutes, and she was the second person to jump after the meet resumed. She just barely missed 5'3.75 on her second attempt, but still finished 22nd out of 46!

Congrats to all four girls on a terrific ending to a sensational season!

Donovan PR's at New Englands/Captains Announced

Mike Donovan accomplished the rare feat of setting a new PR in EVERY postseason meet. After winning the triple jump at the Tri-Valley League championship, he jumped 42'6 to take fourth at Eastern Mass Div. 3, then hit 43'0 to finish fifth at All-States, and today at Thornton Academy in Saco, Maine, he leapt 43'2 to finish 13th overall! He was seeded 18th, so he outperformed by quite a bit. Only four of the athletes ahead of him were underclassmen, so that bodes well for the future!

Donovan shocks field, takes 5th at All-States!

Tough turnaround for us going from the class meet Wednesday night to All-States this afternoon. But Mike Donovan, despite being seeded 21st, was the surprise of the day over at the Triple Jump. He cleared 43'0, to easily have the best mark in his flight. When the second flight (higher seeds) went, he was only eclipsed by the two 46'+ superstars, leaving him third entering the nine-person finals. Two others just sneaked by him at the end, but his 43'0 mark was good for fifth overall!

Mike's the first guy to medal at All-States since his brother in 2010. He'll be competing Saturday at Thornton Academy in Maine at the New England Championships against the best 36 triple jumpers in the region.

Eve Bagley nearly matched her time from last week, running 69.48 to take 26th in the 400 meter hurdles. Sydney Snow, facing a loaded mile field, took 16th at 5:19.59, nearly upsetting a sub-5 girl from her race on Wednesday.

Good job by all braving the wind, and 72 hour "break" between meets today!

Extended Recap of Div. 3 East Meet

Finally got the results online from yesterdays' meet. Happened 72 hours after we expected to compete, but the long wait appeared to have little effect on the Panthers. We had one boy and four girls qualify for All-States individually, and TEN different events earned top eight medals. The girls also had their best finish in at least 10-15 years, taking seventh place with 33 points, even besting league champ Hopkinton!

Early field events yielded our first two qualifiers of the day. Mike Donovan had a PR of 42'6" to claim fourth in the triple jump, with several attempts that indicated he could be in the mix for a medal next week at All-States. Madison Ward, in arguably the most competitive division for high jump, tied her PR by making 5'4 on her third attempt to take fourth overall!

Also in field, Kelly Alves placed 16th in shot put at 29'7.75, while Danielle Lamb took 26th in discus at 83'10. Kylie Lorenzen picked up yet another medal at a state class meet, taking sixth in the long jump at 16'2.75"

Back on the track, Eve Bagley was our first runner competing, and she made All-States by 0.02 seconds, as we picked up yet another fourth place finsih with her time of 1:09.44! Sydney Snow followed soon after, and after getting taken out in 2:32 by a couple of sub-5 runners, she made up a 20 meter gap the last 200 meters to run down third place and qualify for All-States with a five second PR of 5:11.75!

Rick Brown kept up the boys streak of medaling, as he ran 52.76 to take second in his heat and displace a ton of runners in the heats ahead of him with an eighth place finish. He's now medaled in both state class meets as a sophomore, rare for a guy sprinter! Kylie Lorenzen came back with a vengeance in the 400, running 58.76 for a seasonal PR and second place overall!

The second set of field events started, and both Ward sisters medaled in triple jump, with Madison taking sixth at 34'5.25, and Caroline placing eighth at 34'3, tops for freshmen. Kelly Alves placed 33rd at 77'6 in the javelin. Over on the track, Bridget Ghelli entered seeded in the 30s, but placed 13th overall with a time of 17.24, a PR of over two tenths of a second.

2-Milers Katie Salley and Addie Datz both PR'd, as Addie dropped her time to a 12:24 in 22nd place, while Katie PR'd in 11:46.74 to take 12th!

The boys 4x100 relay team was seeded at the bottom, but the quartet of Sam Ratcliffe, Liam Hebert, Mike Donovan, and Matt McIsaac (all underclassmen!) took 21st in 47.03, just off their best time by a couple tenths of a second.

The girls 4x400 relay team had the strongest Non-Division 1 field to contest, but the team of Bagley, Alexis Mejia, Helen Dolan, and Snow ran 4:09.11 to finish seventh.
