For the second straight year, the girls team finished 2nd at the TVL Championship, avenging regular season defeats to Dover-Sherborn and Westwood. Leading the way was Kylie Lorenzen, who scored 28 points, beating three teams by herself, and breaking the school record in the long jump along the way!
Reilly Conroy started the day for us in the 400 hurdles, taking 11th overall in a time of 81.87, and ranking as the second fastest freshman in the race! Up next was Eve Bagley, who entered as the sixth overall seed but lowered her PR by two seconds to finish third in 71.73, nearly qualifying for states and scoring six huge points for us!
In the mile, Kiara Hanlon (5:59.90) and Abby Meltzer (6:11.85) were 18th and 19th overall, running in the unseeded heat. In the seeded heat, Katie Salley entered as the 10th seed, but worked her way through the pack and stormed through the final straightaway to claim 5th in 5:37.83!
In the 100, Lily Stering finished 11th with a time of 15.05.
At this time, the first field events started to finish up. Kylie Lorenzen entered the finals of the long jump with a commanding lead, having cleared 16'11, over a foot ahead of the #2 jumper. She had a PR of 17'3, which was a mere half-inch off of the school record of 17'3.5, set by Chrissy Sereno in 2003. On her last jump of the finals, Kylie leaped 17'4, into the record books. She now has the school record in the 100, 200, 400, and long jump. Madison Ward (15'4.75) and Morgann McKunes (15'3) finished fourth and fifth, giving us 16 points from one event!
Over at high jump, Kylie and Phoebe Fitzgibbon of Westwood each cleared 4'10, 5'0, and 5'2 on their first attempt. After both nearly cleared 5'4, they had a "jumpoff", where they lowered the bar back down to 5'3. Kylie took 2nd after Fitzgibbon cleared 5'3 on her second attempt, but the two stand as the co-favorites for the state meet.
Over at the girls discus, Rachel Kriegsman (59'9) and Amber Ahronian (61'1) overcame the lack of grip from all the rain to finish 13th and 14th, respectively.
Back on the track, Kylie had a rematch with Carly Muscaro of Ashland in the 400. Last year, in the second meet of the year, Muscaro had defeated Kylie in the 400, one of only two losses on the track in the league she had all season. Muscaro had a slight lead on the final turn, but Kylie caught her on the straightaway and absolutely blasted the last 100m, finishing in 59.63, over a second ahead of her rival - a girl who was 8th at All-States last year, by the way. Right behind Muscaro for most of the race was a Hopkinton girl, but our own Sydney Snow made up a staggering amount of room in the last 100m to finish third in 62.99, giving us 16 points in the event. Madison Ward finished 8th overall in 65.48, taking second in the second heat.
In the 800, Maggie Naughton finished 16th in 2:40.25, besting several competitors in her heat. Next up was the 100 hurdles, where Diana Waterman (20.11) and Bridget Ghelli (20.25) each beat half the field to take 11th and 12th in conditions that were quickly deteriorating for everyone, particularly people in the sprints dealing with the headwind.
In the 200, Nikki Kerrigan took fourth overall in 27.70, after nearly qualifying in (slightly better) conditions in the prelims in 27.39 when the temperature was still hospitable!
In the second set of field events, Madison Ward took 2nd in the triple jump at 33'2.5, while Sydney Snow claimed fourth at 31'0, giving us 12 points, all from freshmen!
In the javelin, Rachel threw 67'3 and Amber 66'5, as the last event before the 4x400 finished up.
In the relay, Virginia got us off to a strong first leg, splitting 65 and change as we were in the lead pack. Eve Bagley followed up with a 67, then handed off to Sydney, who split a 64 and pulled us back into third place. Anchoring was Nikki Kerrigan, who ran down Hopkinton's girl from a considerable deficit to take second place behind Bellingham - who stacked the event - in 4:21!
On the boys side, we started off with Cole Osten in the 400 hurdles, as he finished second in his heat to claim 12th overall in a big PR of 65.67 despite the driving rain. Ryan Leonard followed that up by earning fourth overall in 59.47!
In the mile, Tanner Datz PR'd with a 4:55.30, 12th overall, then Jack Boyd also PR'd in a 4:42.83, taking 10th!
After finishing sixth in the trials, Logan Cotto roared back in the finals of the 110 hurdles, finishing third in 16.89.
For the early boys field events, Cotto also finished fifth in the triple jump (39'8.5), while Mike Donovan was 12th (35'6). In javelin, Reuben Jacobson threw 79'10, bettering his seed position, and Matt Wolfson was 13th at 101'8. Over at shot put, Matt threw 33'0 while Jake PR'd at 29'5.
Back on the track, in the 100, Ed Bennie and Troy Waddell finished 14th and 15th in 12.61 and 12.65, respectively. Ben Clapper was 13th and Isaac Fadden 14th in 25.36 and 25.42. The 4x100 team of Fadden, Clapper, Donovan, and Losanno was eighth in 49.33.
Ethan Harris was seeded sixth in the 800, but a late charge vaulted him up to fourth overall in 2:07.34, as places 3-6 were separated by 0.7 seconds!
Ryan Snow was similarly seeded sixth, last man in the fast heat. His trademark move down the final 100m paid off, as he took fourth in 53.60, qualifying for states! He also cleared 5'4 in high jump, just missing the medals.
The Glazebrook duo shined in the two mile as well, seeded 8th and 9th but finishing 4th and 7th in 10:28 and 10:59, respectively.
In the other late field events, Ryan threw 80'3 and Jake 73'2 in the discus, while in the long jump, Logan was ninth at 17'9.75 and Mike 16th at 15'4.25.
Finally, despite being put in the unseeded heat for the 4x400, the boys knocked off some of the fast heat participants, as they finished sixth in 3:46.64!
