Lorenzen MVP, 8 Team Medals at Fr/Soph Meet!

You know you've had a great day at a track meet when the biggest problem is waiting for all your medals to be distributed!

Although the meet is not scored, if you use a 10-8-6-4-2-1 (1st through 6th) state type scoring system for it, I think our girls would have finished second...

1) Pembroke 70
2) HOLLISTON 51
3) Bromfield 42
4) Hopkinton 40
5) Bishop Feehan 37
Last year, Kylie Lorenzen nearly won the meet MVP, as she won the long jump and high jump, but took 2nd in the 200 to Amy Piccolo of Ursuline. Piccolo wound up winning the meet MVP, with Kylie taking the Outstanding Field Performer award.

This year, it was MVP or bust, and by the end of the day, it became a question of how many records she would set.

She started in the 400, where she absolutely demolished the field in 58.83 seconds, the only girl under 60 seconds, and came within 0.26 seconds of breaking an 8-year old meet record by Meg Looney of Bishop Feehan, who was a New England champion in the 600 (1:34). It also lowers her own school record by a full 1.5 seconds, and makes her the first Holliston girl under 60 seconds!

Next, Kylie jumped 16'11.5 in the trials of the long jump, breaking the meet record set by Medfield's Alex Stanton by two inches, and giving her enough of a lead (11 inches) heading into the finals that she saved her legs for the high jump, which was still ongoing.

In high jump, her toughest competition may have been the teammate sitting next to her, as Madison Ward tied for 2nd at 4'11, which would not be her only medal of the day. After Kylie cleared 5'1 on her first attempt, she decided to go for 5'4 to set a new meet record. (She had tied the meet record of 5'3 in her win at this meet last year). She had two great attempts, and although she came up short, she left as a rare Triple Winner.

Like Kylie, Madison had to shuffle back and forth between jumps. While she was making her way up to 2nd in high jump, she cleared 33'10 in the trials of the triple jump for 2nd place entering the finals, where she popped a 34'2 to tie her PR and finish in second place, keeping her streak alive of medaling at every invitational she's been in this year - cross-country and indoor track included!

Nearly joining her in the triple jump finals was Sydney Snow, who jumped 31'3 to take 10th, a great mark after being exhausted from a spectacular 2:28.15 PR in the 800, which earned her third place.

Katie Salley finished in the top 10 for the 800 in 2:35.42 (9th), and the Dynamic Duo of Mike and Ed Glazebrook took 2nd and 6th in the boys 2-mile, finishing in 10:31.56 (Mike) and 10:41.97 (Ed). Eve Bagley took eighth in the girls hurdles in 73.28 seconds, also a PR (after electronic time conversion)

Several other athletes also bettered their seed time or place. Madison Savas ran 14.24 in the 100 (missing the top 25 by one place), which is worth a 14.0 on our track (handtimed), a big PR. Lily Stering's 14.67 compares quite favorably with her PR, while Ed Bennie ran 12.62 to take 23rd in the boys 100. He also ran 25.68 in the 200 (22nd, two top-25 finishes!), with Stefano Demetriades coming in 27.40
Matt Wolfson took 17th in the shot put at 32'8.75, and also threw the javelin 106 feet, while Mike Donovan came in 10th for the triple jump at 35'0, the third best mark by a freshman! Bridget Ghelli ran 20.64 in the 100 hurdles, just missing her (converted) PR by a few tenths.

Monday is an away meet back over at Westwood, please be ready for the bus at 2:30!
