(TVL Top 10 Seeds are in the last two posts, scroll down if interested).
Our banquet will be held Wednesday, February 26th at 6:30 in the cafeteria. You can show up as early as 6 if you want to help set up.
The TVL Meet is expected to start at 2:30. It may start slightly later if the invitational that's earlier in the day runs long, but the meet director for that invite thought they'd be done in time for us to begin at 2:30.
Events 300m and up run slowest section before fastest section.
12:20 - Athletes should arrive at HHS to get ready for the bus
12:30 - Bus LEAVES for Reggie Lewis Center (don't be late!)
1:30 - Arrive at Reggie Lewis Center.
2:30 - High Jump (Cotto, Ward) and Shot Put (Ratcliffe, White, Brady, Rosati) starts.
Opening height is 4'2 for girls, 5'0 for boys.

2:50 - Boys Mile (Boyd, St. George)...usually 2 heats of each, fastest one last
3:05 - Girls 600 (Snow, Bagley)
3:15 - Boys 600 (Moser, Harris)
3:50 - (Or whenever the high jump ends)
Hurdle Trials (Cotto, Bagley, Ghelli, Foster)
Dash Trials (Ratcliffe, Winiker, Rosati, Dolan)...fastest 8 to finals for Hurdles/Dash, trial heats are randomized
Freshman Girls Mile (Datz)
Freshman Boys Mile
Hurdle Finals
Dash Finals
The following events may start slightly later if the high jump takes a while, but I doubt it.
4:05 - Girls 300 (Guccione, Hanstad)
4:10 - Boys 300 (Osten, Bennie)
4:15 - Girls 1000 (Ward, Hanlon, DesRochers) - probably two heats

4:30 - Girls 2 Mile (Grinder, Meltzer) - only one heat, usually 14-18 total runners
4:50 - Boys 2 Mile (M. Glazebrook, E. Glazebrook) - only one heat, usually 14-18 total runners
5:05 - Girls 4x400 (two heats, Holliston is in the fast section as the #1 seed!)
5:15 - Boys 4x400 (two heats, Holliston is in the fast section as the #3 seed)
5:40 - Depart Reggie Lewis Center
6:40 - Arrive back at HHS
*Top 6 earn ribbons, though they are given to coaches at our Postseason Meeting next week, and we pass them out at the banquet.
Scoring - 10 points for 1st, 8 for 2nd, 6 for 3rd, 4 for 4th, 2 for 5th, 1 for 6th

Big PR's for Snow, Salley at Elite Meet!
The Elite Meet is often as competitive as any non-All State Meet, and Sydney Snow and Katie Salley showed they belonged with great personal bests today.
Sydney was in the second of four heats in the 600, entering today with a seasonal PR of 1:42.68 and a lifetime best of 1:40.67. After a quick first lap, the pack slowed and Sydney found herself a bit trapped. Undaunted, she refused to let her PR opportunity slide by. With one lap to go, she started kicking and by the back straightaway she had moved into first. Racing against the clock at this point, she crossed the finish in 1:39.93, a massive PR and only 0.05 seconds off the school record! It's the fastest time since Colleen Cotter's mark, which was set 14 years ago. She now has the #1 time in Division 4.
Katie Salley was up about 15 minutes later in the 1000. She came in with a PR of 3:14.5, fourth all-time in school history. Hanging with a very competitive heat that was won in nearly 3-flat, she came through in 3:12.79, just 0.36 seconds off the school record, and #2 all-time in school history!

Cotto 3rd, three more state qualifers at Coaches Invite!
Having just missed the cutoff for tomorrow's Elite Meet, Logan Cotto showed the state what they were missing by running PR's in both the preliminaries and finals en route to a third place finish in 8.15! His time of 8.30 in the trials was easily a PR, and gave him the fourth seed entering the eight-person final. Unofficially, I believe that's the fourth-fastest time by a Holliston hurdler, and is over a HALF SECOND ahead of the next best time in the Tri-Valley League!
We had three new state qualifiers today. Jack Boyd was our first racer and first qualifier, as he hung with a very deep and congested pack before kicking past the majority of his heat to finish in 4:45.03, just missing an indoor PR by less than a second and easily making states!
In the boys 600, Ryan Moser used a late charge on the straightaway to clear the line in 1:29.49. Ryan Leonard just missed the standard but still ran an impressive 1:29.77.
Freshman Alexis Mejia lowered her time from the Freshman/Sophomore Meet by a full five seconds in the 1000. She kicked past over a half dozen runners the last 100m to finish in 3:20.62, making states!
In some of the earlier results, freshman Emma Guccione ran 46.54 for the 300, just ahead of Virginia Hanstad (47.47), who was in the same heat. Shauna Rockett ran just before in 46.69, third in her heat.
Emma also PR'd in the 55 meter dash, breaking eight seconds with a 7.99!
Madison Ward tied for seventh in the high jump at 4'11, just missing a medal on the tiebreaker.

Estimated Schedule for Saturday
Please note, the later into the meet, the less accurate these predictions will become. A LOT of athletes in certain events (175 boys 300, 138 girls!), etc.
I estimated the number of heats, they've been better this year about starting the next heat as soon as the other one finishes.
7:30 Arrive at HHS
7:45 Depart for Reggie Lewis Center
8:40 Arrive at Reggie Lewis Center
9:00 Check spikes, get numbers, etc.
Hurdles/Dash trials at 10AM on infield (Cotto, Guccione). After the finals are done, the high jump (Ward) starts. There are going to be at least 20 heats of the girls dash alone, so I'd doubt the high jump starts before 11:30.
Girls Mile 10:00-10:30
Boys Mile 10:30-11:00 (Boyd)
Girls 300 11:00-11:20 (Guccione, Rockett, Hanstad)
Boys 300 11:20-11:40
Girls 600 11:40-12:10
Boys 600 12:10-12:40 (Leonard, Moser)
Girls 1000 12:40-1:00 (Mejia)
Boys 1000 1:00-1:20
No one entered in the 2-mile, and there are no relays at this meet.

Two New Qualifiers, All Teams Top 8 at Relays!
Friendly reminder to all to be at the HS no later than 8:15 on Monday for team pictures before the Hopkinton meet.
On to today's Division 4 Relays. Despite most of you being a bit fried from final exams, and a couple kids battling some illnesses, all three of our relay teams placed in the top 8, and either qualified or improved an existing qualifying time!
The girls 4x800 placed of Sydney Snow, Madison Ward, Alexis Mejia, and Katie Salley finished fifth in 10:19.2, the fastest time in six years, and earning themselves medals! (I picked them up after you left, you can get them Monday).
The boys 4x800 squad of Jack Boyd, Mike Glazebrook, Ryan Moser, and Ryan Leonard took eighth in 8:46.70.
We had already made states in the 4x400 from Freshman/Sophomore Meet (4:24), but even without the fastest leg that day (Snow), the team today improved the time by taking seventh in 4:21.70, from the quartet of Shauna Rockett, Virginia Hanstad, Eve Bagley, and Emma Guccione. It's less than a second off the top time in the league this year!
See everyone Monday - bright and early - for the dual meet vs. Hopkinton!

4x4 TIME CHANGE/Team Picture note
***Emma, Shauna, Virginia, and Eve, you need to be at Reggie by 11:45, NOT 12:30 tomorrow. I checked last year's results and the two medleys run more kids than expected in each heat. Given how fast Fr/Soph went with the new clerking system, I'd rather you get there early enough to assure that you're able to check in (most likely you'll be called during the Distance Medley, which is right before you. Longest race of the day but in case they call you during the first of those heats, you'll be covered).
Friendly reminder to all that we will have our team picture Monday at 8:30 AM before our meet against Hopkinton. Arrive NO LATER than 8:15 as we need to set up the gym, and we want to get that done before the picture. You need to be wearing your uniform, you can put your bib number on after the picture.

Wednesday's Meet/Finals
I'll announce this at practice, but wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to read it early - hopefully people are checking the blog regularly by this point in the season.
We've decided that for Wednesday's meet only, we will allow an exception to our team policy that all athletes must be present for the entire duration of the meet.
The lineup will be posted tomorrow. Athletes are still responsible for showing up early enough to warmup and checkin for their events. I'll have an approximate time schedule posted.
*Due to the nature of the competition, it's inevitable that some of the varsity athletes may be in both an early and a late event, with a long gap in between. We'll have Room 501 open for those athletes to use as a quiet study space during their break.

No practice Tuesday
I reminded everyone today, but in case any of the absent people didn't know, there is no practice tomorrow (Tuesday). There is a meet at our gym, but its between Medfield and Millis. I'll be around after school to set up the gym for that meet if anyone needs to find me.
Enjoy the day off, see you all at 2:30 on Wednesday.

4x4 Wins, Snow/Ward 2nd, Girls (unofficially) tie for 1st!
Wow, you wouldn't know by the times that this was the second meet in the span of 24 hours! Nearly everyone got at least top 25 in a state-wide invitational, and we had three medalists for the girls team, which unofficially would've tied for 1st place with Pembroke! (Using 10-8-6-4-2-1 scoring since they gave medals to the top 6 finishers)
(Unofficial) team scores
1) HOLLISTON 28
2) Pembroke 28
3) Dracut 24
4) Hopkinton 20
5) Bishop Feehan 17
On to the results...
First up was the girls mile. Abby Meltzer nearly beat her seasonal PR, running 6:00.52 to take third in her heat despite running a grueling 2-mile just 17 hours earlier. Addie Datz had a big PR in 6:15.92, moving up very well in her heat!
Next up was the boys mile. Ben St. George was coming off a scintillating 2:55.4 debut in the 1000, a time that would've been good for a sixth-place medal at today's meet! He had already been entered in the mile, and showed no signs of fatigue, running 5:08.3 in a massive PR of 15 seconds.
In the girls 300, Anna Foster took her heat in 48.26 seconds, finishing 28th and beating half of a sophomore-dominated field!
Next up was the girls 600. Sydney Snow fought off a couple of attempts by a Plymouth North challenger, and although she lost at the finish by 0.03 seconds, her time of 1:42.68 was a seasonal PR and a full 3 seconds ahead of her time at last year's meet! Quite impressive for someone who had to run 1:43.7 last night to win against a girl who broke Norton's school record.
In the 1000, Alexis Mejia had a huge kick to pass nearly her entire field and finished in 10th place, just missing states by two seconds in a time of 3:25.28. Katie DesRochers also PR'd in her race, finishing fourth in her heat in 3:40.16, 31st overall, top half of the field!
In the high jump, Madison Ward was less than 24 hours removed from having defeated her toughest challenger in the TVL, and cleared 5'2 to take second place, matching her PR!
Over on the infield, Helen Dolan and Emma Guccione both advanced to the 2-heat (16 person) finals of the 55 meter dash, running 7.99 and 8.01. Emma took ninth overall in the finals in 8.02, while Helen ran 8.56. Emma's time is slightly better than the 7.8 hand-time she ran at Norton (0.24 second conversion = 8.04), so an unofficial PR for the rookie! Sam Ratcliffe ran 7.47 in the prelims, beating the majority of the freshmen in a competitive field.
Bridget ran 11.56 in the hurdles, besting more people than she was expected based on seed time.
In the 2 mile, Adri Grinder hung tough in the seeded section, and ripped off a 39.4 second last lap to not only qualify for states (12:48.22, 12:50 was the standard), she nearly took the last medal, as she went from 11th to 7th place in the last lap!
Last event was the girls 4x400. We were seeded 7th overall, putting us in the second-fastest heat, but knew we had a chance to win since last year 4:22 and 4:28 were the top two finishers. Emma, running her first 400 ever, opened up with a 65.9, taking a lead early, then Madison kept the lead with a 67.1. Eve got passed but stuck right on the shoulder of Hopkinton's third leg and split 67.4. Sydney took the baton and regained the lead after the first turn, and held off a furious charge on the final straightaway to win the heat in 4:24.09. We then waited for the fast heat....which was won in 4:26, giving Holliston 1st place and the fastest time in the TVL!
Congratulations to all, the majority of the kids PR'd, we had top-10 finishes in five events (Girls 600, 1000, 2 mile, high jump, 4x4), three medalists (600, HJ, 4x4), and two new state qualifiers (Adri in the two mile, and the 4x4).
NO PRACTICE Tuesday, but there is practice Monday! (Medfield-Millis are having a meet at our track on Tuesday, and we can't have the fr/soph kids practicing/competing seven days in a row, so everyone gets the day off on Tuesday).

Good start to our long weekend, as the girls avenged a loss from last year by beating Norton 54-32 while the guys fell 63-23, which is actually closer than most teams in the TVL have done against the Lancers. Highlighting the day were new state qualifiers Emma Guccione (55 meter dash), Sydney Snow (600), and Logan Cotto (55 meter hurdles), as well as several PR's.

This Weekend...(Updated)
Hope
everyone got home safe after school today. There's no school and therefore no practice tomorrow, so I wanted to make sure everyone knows the schedule and other important information for this weekend's meets.
Saturday
– dual meet for everyone at Wheaton College vs. Norton. You need to be at the
high school at 1:45, the buses leave at 2PM. We’ll get there at 3, meet goes
from 4-6, should be back by 7 PM. I posted the lineup outside Coach Moreau’s
office today, but for those of you who did not see it and want to know your
event(s), send me an e-mail at kelleymic@holliston.k12.ma.us.
Wheaton
College is a bigger facility than our gym, the oval is 200 meters (ours is 130
meters), and the hurdles and dash use a full 55 meters as opposed to 45 yards
at our track. This is a great opportunity for you to set personal records or qualify for States,
since it’s a faster track.
Sunday
– for those of you competing in the Freshman/Sophomore Meet at the Reggie
Lewis Center in Boston, be at the high
school at 7:30, we’ll leave at 7:45 and get there around 8:40. Here’s an
estimated schedule.
*For
running events, the slower heats go before the faster ones.
9:15 Check-in for mile, as well as high jump.
All athletes need to get their spikes checked, I’d do this right when they
start so you don’t need to do it later.
9:30 High Jump starts (Ward)
9:30-10:05 Girls Mile (Meltzer, Datz)
10:05-10:40 Boys Mile (St. George)
10:40-10:55 Girls 300 (Foster)
10:55-11:05 Boys 300 (Zanghi)
Hurdles (Ghelli)
and Dash (Dolan, Guccione, Ratcliffe)…starts on the “infield” (inside the oval)
after the high jump is complete. At the earliest this will be 11:00.
11:05-11:25 Girls 600 (Snow)
11:25-11:40 Boys 600
11:40-11:55 Girls 1000 (Mejia, DesRochers)
11:55-12:10 Boys 1000
12:10-12:45 Girls 2 Mile (Meltzer)
12:45-1:10 Boys 2 Mile…this assumes each 2 mile has
two heats per gender, but it may be one each if there’s enough scratches.
1:10-1:25 Girls 4x200
1:25-1:35 Boys 4x200
1:35-1:55 Girls 4x400 (Snow, Guccione, Bagley, Ward)
2:15 Depart Reggie Lewis Center
3:00 Arrive at Holliston HS
If
your parents are planning on watching you compete, I’d recommend they arrive no
less than 45 minutes ahead of the scheduled start of your event. They changed the check-in procedure this year, so you don't spend forever sitting in the gymnasium waiting for your event to be clerked like previous years. From what I've heard, they clerk a lot more of the people on the infield.
For
invitational meets, you can leave if you have an early event, and your parents
are the ones driving you home.
You
do not need to bring your race number to
the Freshman/Sophomore Meet, they have numbers specifically for this meet that
they’ll give to you at the start of the meet. But you do need your team uniform, of course.
You
CAN wear spikes at BOTH Wheaton College and the Reggie Lewis Center.
