Snow shatters school record, takes 10th at All-States!

Although she's only a sophomore, Sydney Snow has waited a long time to break the school record in the 600 meters. After coming up just a few tenths shy last year, her top goal entering this season was to put herself atop the leaderboard. She pulled within 0.35 seconds with a great race at the Elite Meet, and entered today's meet having run 1:40 and change in wins at the TVL and Division 4 Meet.

Entering today's All-State Championship Meet as the 22nd seed out of 24, she was in the first section, which took off in under 31 seconds for the leader - eventual 5th place finisher from Concord-Carlisle - and Snow was in last coming through in 31-mid. Undaunted, she passed the third and second place girls by 400 meters, hearing the bell at somewhere between 64 and 65 seconds. The leader had a gap on the field, leaving Sydney racing against the clock, and the ghost of Dana Butler's 2008 record of 1:39.58

Powering down the final straightaway, she crossed the tape with the record secure, as the scoreboard soon flashed "1:38.81." Now the only question remained was how high she would place. No one in the next heat would break 1:39, and just two girls in the second-fastest section bettered her mark. Though the final section did, that still left Snow as 10th place overall. Other than Shawna Rossini in 2001 and Emmaline Berg in 2007, no other Holliston sophomore has finished in the top-10 at the All-State Meet. Both those girls were New England champions by the time they graduated.

Logan Cotto kicked off the day for us with an 8.21 in the trials of the hurdles, just missing the top 20 by 0.002. He still ranks as the #1 in the league by a wide margin, and sets himself up as the favorite for the 110m hurdles outdoors.
