Snow, Glazebrook, Girls 4x4 Move on to All-States in big day!

The snow started earlier than expected when we got back, but the real storm was brewing on the track at the Reggie Lewis Center!

A truly historic day, I'll go in order.
Eve Bagley had a full second PR to take 10th in the 600 in 1:42.07, a loaded field that only had one scratch in the top 12. Next up was the 1000, Katie Salley was 12th in 3:16.40, Alexis Mejia 17th in 3:28.41. Sydney Snow had to deal with some heavy traffic the first 400, but ran 3:03.21 to take second place!

Sydney now joins a truly elite group of athletes who have qualified for All-States in multiple years as an individual.
Emmaline Berg (2008+2009 Shot Put), Rosie Keogh (2008+09 2 Mile), Shawn Rossini (2001 High Jump, 2002/03 Hurdles/High Jump), Kim Thalmann (1997 2 Mile, 1998 Mile). That's Dartmouth, Wesleyan, Cornell, Brown, by the way...

The 300 was the Superstar Sophomore Show, as Rick Brown vaulted from 13th seed to 6th overall in a PR of 37.23. Everyone ahead of him is either a junior or senior, and he even beat the other sophomore from Medfield that had defeated him earlier in the season. The last two sophomore boys to medal for Holliston were Cam Chisholm (shot put 2010) and Jeff Mansfield (Hurdles 2000). Emma Guccione just missed her PR, but avenged an early season loss to Norton star Brooke-Lynn Williams among others as she also took sixth in 43.94! She's the first underclassmen to score in a girls sprint event since 2003 (Chrissy Sereno, aka the school record holder)

Madison Ward medaled yet again in the high jump, clearing 5'0 and taking seventh place to provide two more valuable points.

Back on the oval, Mike Glazebrook held on as the leaders torched the first 800 in 2:20, leaving him in dead last of his section at 2:23. Undeterred, he worked his way up and ran a 9:53.41 for fifth place. After not even qualifying for the class meet last year, he's a lock to make All-States now as a wild card (they take 10, he's #4 right now with a time that's well ahead of the Div. 5 field), and only 4.8 seconds off the oldest school record for the boys team! (Bob Steinbrecher, 9:48.4 in 1981).He's the first distance guy to quailfy for us since at least 1993.

There was one more event left. Despite all four girls doubling, the quartet of Emma Guccione, Eve Bagley, Madison Ward, and Sydney Snow ran 4:13.82, taking third place, breaking their school record by 0.32 seconds, and qualifying for All-States! It's the first relay team to qualify in 10 years (girls 4x8 in 2005).

The girls finished ninth with 19 points, their highest team finish since 2009, and only their third top-10 finish in the last 11 years! The boys were 19th with 7 points, their best in three years.

Division 5 goes on Tuesday (pushed back from Sunday due to the storm), as of now here are the rankings for the All-State kids. I'd expect maybe 1-3 teams or individuals to push them down from Div. 5, but not more than that. So these should be close to their seeds for All-States. (30 entries total for each event, by the way)

Sydney Snow - 11th best 1000
Mike Glazebrook - 15th best 2 mile
4x400 - 17th best time

Great job all around, today was the first time in 13 years that we qualified at least one boy, one girl, and a relay.
