Before I get to the post, some housecleaning items. The banquet is Wednesday, February 25th at 6:30 in the cafeteria.
1) If you haven't returned your uniform, either bring it to the banquet or meet Coach Kelley after school. I'll be at the weight room from 2-4 each day.
2) Please give $15 to Katie Salley for banquet costs, preferably beforehand. (There might have been a Facebook post about this earlier)
Okay, on to today's events. Long season, often it's a tricky meet to hold a peak. But we had some impressive performances.
Sydney Snow made quick work of the unseeded section of the 1000, running 3:00.34 to take eighth place overall. She's our first All-State Medalist since 2009 (Emmaline Berg and Rosie Keogh)! and it was her second fastest time ever. She's the first junior to medal since Berg in 2008.
Madison Ward just barely missed on all three of her 5'0 attempts, including a second attempt that nearly everyone thought she had until the back of her heel clipped the bar. As I mentioned earlier this week, she joins Sydney, Shawna Rossini, Berg, and Kim Thalmann as individuals who have qualified for multiple All-State Meets.
Despite a sore throat, Mike Glazebrook broke 10 minutes yet again. His time of 9:59.88 was 18th overall. 12 months ago, he didn't even quailfy for the class meet in the 2-mile, running 10:39. This year, he was in the fast heat at All-States!
The 4x400 saved the best for last. Emma Guccione had the race of her life in the opening leg, taking the lead at the cut-in and never looking back in 62.5. Eve duplicated the split, then Madison ran 65 as the pack began to jockey with each other. Sydney Snow took the baton and had a PR split of 60.3 as the girls finished third in their heat. But more news was to come. They beat the entire third section, and finished 14th overall (Top half of the field!) in 4:10.83, a full THREE seconds ahead of the old school record!
Spring sports registration is already available online, practices start Monday, March 16th. Please take care of uniform/banquet fee (covers pizza, decorations, etc)!
