At a windy Pembroke High School, we had two automatic qualifiers for next week's All-State Championships, led by Division 3 East Champion Kylie Lorenzen (400) and D3 East Runner-Up Ryan Snow (Triple Jump). The girls finished 15th with 17.33 points, the boys came in 21st with 11 points. I'll recap in the order the events were contested.
Madison Ward staretd her busy day with the triple jump, earning her first medal of the day with a jump of 34'5. Over on the track, Abby Meltzer ran 12:31.23 for 30th in the Girls 2 Mile. Up next was Mike Glazebrook, who PR'd by four seconds to take 11th in 10:07.34, thanks in part to a scorching last lap of 67.1!
The 400 hurdlers were next, and both nearly medaled. Eve Bagley was ninth in 70.62, while Ryan Leonard took 11th in 61.37. Continuing our busy morning, Katie Salley was 25th in the mile (5:38.36).
Kelly Alves was the top freshman in the shot put, nearly making the finals with a throw of 32'1.25. She's ahead of where former All-American Emmaline Berg threw her freshman year, so the future is certainly bright. Madison picked up yet another medal, finishing eighth in high jump (4'11).
Back on the track, after Logan Cotto advanced to the 110 hurdle finals, Kylie Lorenzen lined up for just her second 400 of the year. Taking the lead by 150m, she pulled away with a win by nearly a full second, winning in 58.76!
Sydney Snow was up next, and she won her heat of the 800 in 2:24.07, as well as earned a medal for eighth place overall.
Right near the finish, the boys triple jump was hosting the biggest surprises of the day. Mike Donovan was the 29th seed of 30 entries, yet finished ninth with a big PR of 40'3.5, making the finals. Only one other underclassmen beat him. But he wasn't the only surprise in the finals - Ryan Snow came in as the ninth seed with his recent PR at TVL's (41'1.5), but a TWO FOOT PR of 43'2.75 gave him second place, earning a trip to All-States!
Logan matched his seed from the prelims, earning sixth in the 110 hurdles at 16.29. The boys 4x100 was 19th overall, as the quartet of Sam Ratcliffe, Liam Hebert, Donovan, and Ed Bennie ran 47.42. Finally, the girls 4x400 of Snow, Bagley, Helen Dolan, and Lorenzen finished fifth in 4:16.75.
Two of the class meets (Div. 1 and Div. 2 East) go tomorrow, I'll post the Girls 400 and Boys Triple Jump seeds tomorrow night once those meets are finished.
If you finished competing today, you can turn your jersey in to me after school on Monday.
